Bethlehem Senior Center provides qualified seniors with a safe place to spend the day with friends; health, community, mental health and other essential resources; activities; field trips and celebrations; a hot lunch and vital social service referrals. On an average day, you will encounter 40 individuals who will greet you as one of the family and invite you to stay awhile and enjoy the goings on, whether it is an exercise class, a craft experience or the bi-weekly Bible study provided by local pastors. Bethlehem Seniors are allowed to “gracefully age” by remaining physically, mentally and socially active.
Project Extend evolved from the realization that seniors attending the center might need assistance with minor home repairs or chores that they no longer were able to do for themselves. The program has since grown to provide major and minor home repairs and modifications for an average of 150 elderly adults on an annual basis. The majority of the homes we work on were built before 1950 and safety and health problems stemming from the age of these homes is becoming a growing issue. Water is usually flowing (or not flowing) through galvanized pipes, electrical capacities are hindered by old fuse boxes, and most houses have either lead-based paint, asbestos, or mold issues. Some of our major repair work consists of roof replacements, HVAC system repairs or replacements, plumbing and electrical upgrades. Our minor work varies from simple repairs to hand rails, installing grab bars and screen doors to painting both exterior and interior surfaces.
